Arabica coffee

Arabica coffee is an evergreen shrub or small tree from the highlands of Ethiopia, now grown across the tropics for the beans inside its cherry-like fruits. It has glossy dark green leaves with wavy edges and prominent veins, fragrant white flowers, and clusters of berries that ripen from green to deep red.

• Each coffee cherry usually holds two seeds pressed flat against each other — the 'beans' we roast.
• Coffea arabica is a natural hybrid of two other coffee species and, unusually for the genus, is self-fertile.
• São Miguel in the Azores hosts one of the very few coffee plantations in Europe.

Care
Grow it in bright indirect light with moist, slightly acidic soil and protect it from temperatures below about 10°C.
