Common dandelion

The common dandelion is a low-growing perennial with a rosette of deeply toothed leaves and a single bright yellow flower head on a hollow, leafless stalk. Originally from Eurasia, it now grows almost everywhere in lawns, meadows, roadsides and waste ground.

• Each yellow "flower" is actually a head of up to 200 tiny individual flowers, each of which can become a seed.
• Dandelions can set seed without pollination, so a whole field may be made of genetic clones.
• The milky sap in the stem was tested as a rubber source and is still researched for making tyres.

Care
If you want fewer in a lawn, pull them after rain so the long taproot comes out whole \u2014 any piece left behind will resprout.
