Lavender scallops

Lavender scallops is a sprawling succulent from Madagascar with paired, spoon-shaped blue-grey leaves whose margins are notched like pinking shears and often blush pink or red in sun. It spreads by low, trailing stems that root where they touch soil, and in mild climates it forms broad mats topped in winter or spring by nodding bell-shaped mauve flowers.

• Like other Kalanchoe of this group, it can sprout tiny plantlets from leaf notches, so a dropped leaf becomes a new plant.
• It escapes gardens easily in mild oceanic and subtropical climates and is considered invasive on several islands.
• Its leaves use CAM photosynthesis, opening their pores at night to save water in dry conditions.

Care
Give it gritty, free-draining soil and bright light, water sparingly, and pull back stray stems since it roots wherever it touches the ground.
